Hood hinge lubrication?

The body shop banged my hood hinges into submission. Now they are nice and tight. Problems is, can't hardly get the hood shut (it's the style that has those big springs). What's the best lube I can use to free them up some? Thank you.
 
I have always heard lithium grease was best for that, but have never used it myself.
They also make a boot that attaches around the springs to help with the noises they can make when opened or closed, but no personal experience with those either.
 
Motorcycle chain lube works well because it is thin enough to penetrate into the nooks & crannies of the hinges but sticky enough to stay put.
