Hood pad color

Do any of you know if what the correct color for the hood sound deadener/pad is supposed to be? I see that they come in a gray and black.

My car is a 67 Dart.

The ones I've seen were a lighter gray.

Reason I asked was if it was a charcoal gray that might look black 55 years later.

Yes, over time they expand/delaminate giving them a softer look.

Can't say when new, but if I was to take mine off it would hold it's form.

The areas that are flaky have long fibers like thick strands of fiberglass and some wafer sections like what happens to Masonite when it has gotten wet.

On mine, the engine side looks more woolly but I think that is from 55 years of wind, oil, water, and heat distroying the OEM pressed surface.

The originals are molded and thin. They will hold shape. There is no numbers or writing on them.

This generic mat they sell now is not right. It will rub your aircleaner top and the clips sink right into it.
