Looking for recommendations on spray painting my fiberglass hood scoops. What kind of paint and prep work. They have never been painted from what I can tell the previous owner just mounted them and called it done. Looking to keep it a simple weekend DIY if possible.
Back in 2015 I painted mine with a Dupli-Color "rattle can" (RAM truck gloss black (if I remember correctly)) from the local Autozone. I simply wet-sanded them with 800 grit paper. After the paint was dry I wet-sanded with 1500 grit paper, the used polishing compound on them until I was satisfied with them. Turned out great for the cost of 3 cans of spray paint. Since then, I have had my hood, scoops and cowl painted (V21 style) by a friend. I dig it!!
That’s just what I’m looking for your scoops look great. The (V21) look is nice too. If you don’t mind some more novice questions did you spray clear coat on them? Do I have the steps listed correctly below? 1. Prep with 800 grit 2. Paint 3. Wet sand 1500 4. Polishing compound
I did not use any clear on the "rattle can" paint job. However, my buddy did use clear when he did the V21 style paint work. And yes, steps 1-4 are exactly what I did. Good luck and post some pictures when you're done!
