Hi Racers: Putting a built OEM 440-Block Engine in my 1972 Swinger I bought new Hooker Super Comp Fenderwell Header. I put the Headers in before I installed the engine. But trying to match the headers up to the heads, they don't seem to fit. I removed the OEM brace underneath the car that flowed out to the Rocker Panels to make room for the collectors, but the driver's side won't quite position itself at the heads correctly, like the collectors need to move upward to line up the headers to the heads.

The passenger side is worse. The headers won't even come down the head due to the tight space between the heads and the shock towers. I've opened the cut-out in the fenderwells as wide as I can, but that side is still not fitting in the tight space.

I think I can get the driver's side to work, but Need some advice on how you've made your Hooker Fenderwells fit on the passenger side. Thanks in advance for your suggestions and guidance. Thank you,

They don't appear to have enough upsweep to clear the shock towers.

Is the engine too far toward the passenger side?

Have you tried to roll the passenger side of the engine up and lower it onto the header?

I get part number 5215- 1hkr for that application from summit website.

Looks like I have 5215-1HKR. I thought I ordered the right Headers for my Trickflow 270 heads. The description says for 70 to 75 Swinger, etc… Did I get the wrong part? Do my heads require different?

A couple places I've found say those fit low deck only.

FWIW, Location reference...

Hooker Super Competition Full Length Header - Ceramic Coated

1967-1969 Barracuda/Dart/Swinger, 1970-1975 Dart/Swinger/Demon/ Duster/Valliant/Aspen/Diplomat/Volare: 383-440, Tube 2" O.D. x 43", Collector Size 3.5" O.D., Collector Length 9", Port Shape: Same As Port; Fenderwell Exit

Part # 5215-1HKR

Looking on Summit they only list low deck engines. Even on the Holley site the only specific engine listed in the footnotes is the 383.

Then go down and click "applications". You'll see the only engine listed is the 383.

Thank you everyone. I see my mistake now. I’ll order the right ones tomorrow. Any negatives with Hookers? Suggestions for 750 HP 512?

My suggestion would be to NOT abuse a fenderwell header.

How do you know you are making 750 hp?

It's a 440 block, the tf 270s have standard port location.
They don't matter 383 or 440.
One is 1 7/8
One is 2 inch

FWIW, my 5215 install instruction. Not sure what has changed since mid '80s other than where it's manufactured.......

The right headers to order would be tti step 2 1/8 headers
Fenderwells will kill at least 25 hp
