anyone have a picture of an early A body dash with the harness attached...? Gotta figure out where this all goes... particularly curious about what I believe is the gas gauge.....is it the round part with all the wires in it? Its doesnt match up to the set up on the back... can the wires be moved?

OK Scotty, heres what I can add here...

The stud with no nut in the picture is one stud of 2 holding the gas guage into the cluster. The circuit board pin that corresponds with the stud with no nut is the dark blue wire in the round plug cluster. The other stud with the nut from the gas guage shares the circuit board with the voltage limiter thingy mounted on the back, but doesn't appear to go to the round cluster plug. I believe the limiter side is sending power to each guage, and the side connected to the cluster plug is the "meter" side. Blue goes to the gas tanks sending unit, and I'll bet if you look at the color of the wire going to the tank, it's blue.

Hard to do without a wiring diagram, and if I had one for 64-65 I would gladly share, but it's pretty easy to figure out the wiring in these early A's, especially with the diagram!! I have an extra cluster and harness here if you need reference, and I have a WD for 1966 to refer to also!! Maybe Del will chime here also!! Hope this helps, Geof

the thing is, the spacing of wires on my plug is not the same as the spacing of pins. Looks like there are two pins together then a space, then 6 pins and a space. The spacing on my plug is four wires, an empty slot, then four wires, and then an empty slot... My pin set up is just like yours though...

I don't understand your question. Are you adapting a cluster to a different harness?

If you look at the pc board as in the first post, you can simply trace the connections and see where they go.

So far as the harness, if you know what it came out of, we can help you with that

What do you have for wiring diagram/ shop manual?

its all stock...just trying to match up the gas gauge connection...thats all... it doesnt seem to match up

Should just plug right in. What is it that you think does not match up?

OK Scotty, this picture is facing the plug of a 1965 Cuda wiring harness center plug connector. With the locator pin at the center of the plug at 12:00 and going clockwise, here is the order of the wires, starting with the wire at 12:00...

12:00- Purple
Green
Brown
Blue/White tracer
Grey
Red
(space)
(space)
Blue (gas guage)
Orange
(space)

Maybe you have a 64 harness, or other options that would necessitate a different configuration?? Hope this helps, Geof

It will only plug in one way if you look at the picture there a slot behind the pin at the 6 o clock position and there's a raised part on the plug that goes into the slot If your looking at a wiring diagram and getting confused it's because you have think like your looking at it in a mirror --backwards

its a 65 harness, but im installing in a 64...would that matter?

I'm not sure if it would matter, but the brown Cuda I pictured in your bumper thread is a 64. If this is still an open discussion in a couple of days, I can have the harness out for a check-see!! geof
