How bad?

While installing a drain plug on my 8 3/4 I pulled out the large piece with a magnet (not the penny- :p ) it wasn't the only piece but by far the largest. How bad?

I think I'd pull the center section and give it a going over. Was it making any noise???
 
It is hard to tell by the picture. Is it a piece of tooth off a gear or is it round like a pin? Looks like it could be a piece of the pin out of a cone type Sure Grip. The cross shaft that the two small spider gears ride on.
 
First impression was a tooth but not really sure. It is rounded on top as shown in the pic yet flat on bottom. I may open it up next weekend and take a look.
