How Come This Slant has An extra hole on the head?

I’m rebuilding a spare slant and will swap them. I noticed the head (by the Thermostat) has an extra hole compared the one I just pulled. Does anybody know what goes in each hole?

In your case,a plug. Would likely be for the egr control or emissions control. A thermal vacuum switch similar to what you have.
