How do you get your used parts so clean?

For greasy bolts and small items, soak them in Purple power or buy the generic version called Prime Purple. The grease will literally melt off. Clean with a brush and rinse with water. They will look as good as new.

as soon as I can find a plastic barrel reasonable.

You might want to check car washes. A few years ago I got a bunch of them...they were next to the building with a "free" sign in front of them. I got 'em to use as rain barrels for my garden.

Well I'll be .... just googled the molasses thing... never would have thunk it!!!

The molasses works and it’s cheap! It does take a while and it will start to stink and get nasty after a while also. I used 1 part molasses to 10 parts water.

Molasses will eat stuff too if you leave it in there too long. It aste Sems bolts and clip nuts on me. I use a sandblaster on that stuff now.
