How does the speedometer gear stay in? MY bud took this apart and I cannot find a clip

The inner seal that is held in place by the retainer ring is a soft all rubber seal with no metal cladding like some we might see.
The ring that holds it in the housing is just an interference fit and does not go into a groove or anything like that.
It just goes in on top of the seal and being larger around than the bore it goes in is what keeps it in place.
I have probably done 1000 of those things, and for the persistent leakers or ones with a groove in the metal shaft you can stack two of those seals in there.
Every once in awhile I would have someone say they had red oil drip on their pants/dress and guess where that came from?
That little seal was bad and fluid traveled up the speedo cable and dripped from the back of the speedo to where it eventually found it's way down through anything under it and dripped onto someone's clothes.
