Put the new"to me" 3.91 gear in my duster. Its a 742 w/ clutch shur grip. It ahd been run by the previous owner. I used royal purple gear lube as that was what it looked like was in it before. It seems kind of tight and after about 10 miles of goofing off I checked the temp of the pig and it felt kind of hot for that short of a drive maybe 130-140 deg. is that normal or do I need to keep a closer eye on this.

130-140 isn't too hot really. I would keep an eye on it though after you drive it a little more to make sure it's ok. How long did the previous owner run it?
Was told that the shur grip was rebuilt within the last 1000 miles don't know how old the rest is. Right now my trany is so noisey I can't tell if there is any noise from the rear or not.I guess I'll be pulling the trans as soon as I have the time.
