I am trying to get a approximate length for my future drive shaft. I have a 72 Dart that will have a 360/727/8 3/4 rear. I need to know about what length shaft that will be?
Yes I will do a final measurement when I install all of this.

Thank you in advance for your help. :)

Here ya go.
Let me know if you can't read it and I'll upload it to my server and post a link to the full size version.

Yea that sucks.
I uploaded the full size here www.letsgocomputers.com/pics/driveshafts.jpg

Kind of a personal question :poke:

IIRC should be about 48 inches, my old eyes having a tough time reading that chart, even on the link.

Check out the parts book for your car and year. The chart above is probably correct but you never know.

As for me I'm standing proud at 54" and change, but I will be having a shaft shorting procedure in the near future to accommodate an 8 3/4 as well

I will have to modify my shaft to fit a Dana in the rear...………………….of my Duster:lol:

O.K. time for a dumb question...
When you say "length" where are you measuring from/to? In my engineer's mind the only thing that matters is from centerline of u-joint to centerline of u-joint. But is that how we measure them?

I was wondering the same thing from the chart measurements, I know that when you have a drive shaft made they want measuments from the bottom of the joint I believe.

I hate to ask this, but do you think the measurements on the chart is from the center lines of the joints without the the yokes installed?

Good question, but that is how slip yoke shafts are usually measured.
Problem is, a lot of places measure rear of the trans housing (where the seal is) to the center of the rear U joint.
