How low are 355 gears

With a specific rpm/mph ratio, a taller tire with more gear will give a little better traction than less gear with a shorter tire. A 2.71 low gear assembly out of a later 904 (usually a lock-up) will help you get extra initial accelleration without hurting the overall final geariing. Just gotta find out exactly what need to be swapped/modified.

To low for the street and not low enough to race.

That's a pretty valid statement (IMHO).

I had 3.23 on my Dart. It was a good ratio for all around Street/Freeway use...

I replaced it with 3.91...Awesome for "aggressive" street use, PITA for Freeway application.
