AKA Mopars4us on Youtube
I have wanted to post this for a long time now because I honestly feel that if everyone could come as close to this as we can there would be a ton less problems among the inhabitants of this planet.
I admit I have a pretty fair sized ego that was born from abilities and knowledge that I feel I have.
This is normal for the most part for a mentally healthy existence (or as close as we can have to one with our baggage that we all carry, and eventually from time to time burden others with.)
Here's one very helpful thought process I learned from the man in the video posted below.
He says everyone has ego, but it is not and does not have to determine who and what we are as a person.
The ego would like to do exactly this.
It would like to tell you and everyone else in the world who they are and exactly what you and they are worth as a person, as a father, as a husband and on and on.
The trick is to realize that the ego IS NOT you, but only a part of you that can be recognized as what it is and does for us, or to us in our daily lives.
Approximately 90 percent of what we say around others before we think is the ego talking, and not who you really are or want to be for yourself or others around you.
When we can realize this, we can then begin to create a space between that ego and our real person.
Just realizing that the ego wants to be first to speak is half the battle in creating this defensible space between our real selves and that which would like to be in total control of us.
It exists purely to be in control and right about everything, and fights hard to make us allow it by justification.
Example:
"I know that probably hurt that person but what a dumba**." (justification by applying a label)
Just like laws that allow imprisonment, torture, and abuse of basic human rights by law or God because one is labeled a terrorist.
Applying labels to people only serves to take the humanity and compassion out of the equation and distance ourselves from the reality of the situation.
There needs to a what I call "defensible space" between these parts that make up our whole person so that we realize they are there and that they can be changed if we wish.
Enough space so that we may separate our ego from our conciousness enough to realize it is the ego talking when it is, and not the actual peron we are or wish to be.
So, the ego will try to justify it's assertion by any means neccesary to acomplish it's goal.
That goal is almost ALWAYS to convince us that we are better, worth more to society, or just plain more evolved than others.
That justification for our actions or words are what the ego thrives upon.
When we as a race (ALL humans) learn this single thing about ourselves and refuse to give the ego the first and final word, we will be taking our first meaningful steps to becoming a race of people capable of making some fantastic changes for the better on this planet.
Until then, it ain't gonna happen.
If you got this far in reading this post on such a "boring", "stupid", "does not apply to me" "who the F does this person think he is" post then I congratulate you, as you are the begining and hopfully the future of this awareness as well as the teachers of it.
The ones that didn't read this far very likely have an unconrollable ego, and as as such labled this post as stupid, rediculous, or doesn't apply to them.
It applies to all, but some ego's will not allow it to be read, heard or even considered due to it's wish to be right, in total control of it's person and justified in doing so.
Here's a super short video that explains what I mentioned that helped me to see the existance of this in us, and how to lessen it's control over us. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEc5-hVZ1CA"]The end of the Ego; The Awakening by Eckhart Tolle - YouTube[/ame]
The whole series is 8 CD's and is hours and hours getting really in depth on the subject of ego, thought processes and how it affects our own definition of who we are.
Thank you for your time.
