Hello everyone, I'm an 18-year-old punk from Finland (Europe) who just bought a Plymouth Duster for my first car last spring. I drove it around all summer and autumn and this winter I started to make some changes.
I started with the 360 engine that was in the car.

I'm doing everything on a low budget 'cause I'm just a poor student.
Here's the recipe for my engine:

- 1975 360 block, bored .040'' over
- #587 heads with dual valve springs, I'm going to have a machine shop cut for 2.02'' intake valves. Do a 3-angle valve job, porting and polishing myself. I was also thinking about lowering the heads for higher compression.
- For camshaft I have a H-278-2 from Crane cams
- Comp lifters
- Comp timing sets
- Edelbrock performer intake
- Right now I have a Carter AFB competition series carb (750cfm) but I know it's too big, so I'll probably go for a 625-650cfm
- Hedman hedders

And now I was wondering how much horsepower should my 360 have when I'm done with it? I can't afford to take it to the dyno just yet.

I'm also interested to take my Duster for a 1/4 mile track next summer. It has a 727 trans with a shiftkit and 8 1/4 rear with 3.23 gears and a sure-grip, any ideas for what time to expect?
Hood, trunk lid and front fenders are fiberglass so the weight should be around 2900lbs (?)

Thanks!

The 3:23 will hurt you and what tires? Also what converter?

Hp should be around 350. Your et can be anywhere from 14s to mid 12s I believe. Converter and tires are two crucial things for determining et!

18 YO Punk! I love 18 YO punks. Great age! Welcome aboard!

About your pistons, how far down in the cylinder are they?
Your heads, how many cc's are the heads chamber?
What size tire do you have on the car?

It looks like you have a skinny tire there now. That makes the car traction limited with even a low compression engine. With that I see and your given information I'll say you have a mid 14 second car as it sits right now. And that would be with stock heads and exhaust manifolds. (You didn't say anything about the exhaust.)

Oh! By the way, a 750 is not to large for it but it will take careful tuning of the carb and ignition to get it feeling good and right. I myself perfer a smaller carb for the street and driving.

If you use a wider tire like a 235/60/15 (26 inches) your traction problems will be less. Good springs are the other half. Once you can get off the line well, I can see a much better time slip.

Nice ride by the way.

Sounds good , don't think the cab it to big , think it is a good size , 625 -650 would be going backwards with the 360 and that cam and valve heads your planning on . Should run between mid 13 - low 14 . Gears and sticky tires will help a lot .

13's with about 320-360hp. Heads are your limiting factor, change them and you will be close to 400ish.

Welcome to FABO! I love your car...

A true 300/325hp in my opinion. Somewhere in the 13's is a reasonable guess on 1/4mi et's.

Oh forgot the exhaust, I have a 2.5'' stainless steel exhaust all the way to the back with some old mufflers and Headman headers

For tires I have 14'' BF Goodrich radial TA's (235/60/14 in back)
I'd like to have bigger back tires (something like 275/60/15),
I already have modified inner fenders for big slicks but the springs are still in their original position.

I really don't know what converter I have but I think it's original.
Pistons don't say anything but 040 on the top...

This Duster is my driver that I will drive to school/work everyday so I don't want anything too radical.
Just a nice street car that I can have fun with and is fast enough to smoke my friends' BMWs and Subarus :burnout:

Thanks for your answers!

My combo is not much different than yours I have speed pro 2 releif pistons and a .480 lit cam.I also have an open dif with 2.76 gears skinny 14 inch tires but I do have a 3500 stall converter . Oh yeah and my best time 13.38@104.
