how to achieve 600 to 650 hp sb 408?

-
Hello guys i have looked at comp cams rx296 solid roller 649/654 0,50 263/270 duration that with 11,5 in compression is that conserative

DO you have the flow sheet to the heads? What fuel are you gonna run?

yes i have a flow sheet on the heads im going to bring home tomorow its out in the garage then i am going to write the numbers down. the fuel is regular shell v-power 99 octane its a gas you can buy on every gas station in sweden from pump

INDY head , 11.42 compression .700 ish lift old Super Stocker hand me down cam shaft, 850 cfm makes the best power with this combo.

The head flow is adequate to support 600 HP, the cam, headers, and compression are not. If you want 650 you are going to need more head flow, .700 lift roller, 2" headers and around 12.5 to 13:1 compression. While the dominator and the Indy intake are good you could probably squeeze another 30 hp out with a tunnel ram and two 750's.

thanks for all the answers. 7172 duster your engine seems strong the power looks to raise fast on the top end must be a real kick. i have ordered a comp cams rx302s-r6 with valve lift 654/655 and 269/276 0,50 duration 106 lobe center but i have 1,6 rockers so the lift is going to be 697/698 i have also sold my old headers and ordered 1 7/8 headers and i am going raise the compression to around 12.1 i hope the combination going to work

Still though by the time you set the .020 something valve lash and the loss of lift due to the pushrod angle you'll only have about .670 or so lift on the intake.

yes thats correct what do you think is the cam too small?

To make near 650 yes, I would want at least .700 net lift and the heads that flow to that lift also. This means somewhere around 320 cfm @ .700.

You should really use a 2" header also.

This is my combo and I fully expect it to make around 660-670 hp.

Comp roller net lift .700 intake, 278 @ .050. Exhaust net lift .697 and 285 @ .050.

W5 heads 2.08/1.60 valves, peak flow of 328 @ .700 on the intake. 12.7 compression, 4" arm, 2" headers with 4" collectors. M1 tunnel ram with 2 Demon 750 TR carbs.

We built a 416 a year or so ago, with the Comp XR286R, CNC ported Eddy RPM heads, 1.6 rockers, SV intake, 950 carb, 9.7 to 1 compression. It made 575hp 550tq.

I believe this same combo, with a little more compession and a Voodoo 60434 cam would have made 600+hp.
