gonna have to order a new glass. they are all over ebay. break the old one out and then behind the glass there is a ball with a plate across it. its either held in with screws or its got a knurled stud. mine were held in with small screws. i took it apart and cleaned my ball very well. lol then i took my dremel and ground down the mating surface on the mirror housing and reinstalled. your trying to get a greater clamping force on the ball end. then i used adhesive and glued in new glass. now my mirror is as stiff as it was when i was 16.

How did you deal with the glass housing being crimped around the glass when reassembling?

Are the new glass inserts smaller in diameter than the originals?

The glass should fit snug in the hole it's not crimped

I filled up a small magnetic parts holder dish with paint thinner and put the glass side of the mirror down in there and let it soak for a while. The thinner softened up the glue and the glass came right out. Zero damage to the chrome.

Problem with mine was the plate that goes across the ball inside was riveted in and I didn't feel like messing with that. So I tried putting glue across the ball to hope it would "catch" on the plate better once I put it together. I glued the glass back in and it didn't help at all. What's even worse is the glue I used doesn't soften up with paint thinner so it'll have to be broken if I ever want to mess with it again.

If I did it again I'd drill out the rivets and cut out a small piece of cereal box cardboard and place it in between the ball and the plate. Then I'd rivet it back in tight and glue the glass back on. I used the cardboard trick on my rear view mirror and it worked perfectly. Has held tight for years.
