Im looking for people who have Drag raced with the Ramrod shifter. I have only made one pass then had to leave as I couldnt get the shifter into 1st. I have since adjusted the T handle and it works for now. My main question is is it normal for the shifter to pop back into neutral when lifting off the throttle. My trans is slick shifted by Liberty.

Yes. If your gear box is slick shifted without the syncros in it, you have to hold it in gear when on deceleration. It will pop out of gear. Is it slick shifted or pro shifted? If it has rings welded to the gear, that’s pro shifted.

If it’s just slick shifted, you can grind every other tooth off the syncros, put the struts and strut springs back in with the syncros and it will stay in gear and still shift.

Edit: I’ve driven RamRod and Vertigate’s on the street and at the track. I prefer the RamRod because it’s a smaller shifter.

I previously had a Super Shifter 3 in it and it didnt pop out on deceleration but the Ramrod dosent take much to bump it into neutral. I have not looked at the trans. Im planning to go auto on the car. Just want to make some more passes before I change it over.

As yellow rose stated, it's not the shifter causing the transmission to pop into neutral. I ran a RamRod on the street and the track for many years and never had any issues, except for when I didn't have it adjusted properly. IMHO, it's the best shifter Hurst ever made.

I ran that setup with a slick shift 833!

Never touched the clutch after launch. Oh I miss those days!

I ran my RamRod shifter on a slick shifted 833 and now on a Jerico DR4 at the track and on the street and neither one ever popped out of gear when I let off the throttle. But I will say that both transmissions come out of gear with very little effort.

I ran verticle gates and super shifter 3's for years. Sounds like your throw stops are adjusted to
tight. That will make a stock tranny drop out of gear. 1 shifter does the other don't.
