@slimjim, I've got a YT question for you. What determines the frequency and length of the ads that run during the videos?

As a general rule, for channels I subscribe too (and I am a subscriber), I let the ads run just in case it makes a difference in income off the video. But I am getting frustrated because with some videos it seems like I see 3-5 minutes of the channel and then several minutes of ads. I've been trying to quantify it so I started a timer on this one, and it took 53 minutes to watch your 30 minute video if I include the ads after the video is over. Is that something you have control over?

Oh, and love the video and what you did and why.
That is very interesting. After selecting monetization, YT decides where and for how long to place the ads. Its supposed to "maximize the viewers experience." I think for this video, YT has recognized that viewers who stay beyond the first couple of minutes usually stay till the end. It must think it can get away with longer ads on this one.

I'm not surprised it is YT, I was kind of guessing that would be the answer. Not really sure what the logic is, but it happens on most videos I watch so either YT is giving me more ads for some reason, or they are just being heavy handed across the board. I know it isn't just this video, most (but not all) feel like a 1:1 ratio of ads to video time.

Thanks.

Keep up the good work, love the channel.
