I need some advice. My friends 68 Cuda decklid trim does not line up correctly

Mines the same re misalignment...been wondering how Im gonna make up that 1/4 inch...Its one of those things that niggles me every time I see that sweet ***
 
Have seen mis-alignment here for years, some worse than others. Fitment is inconsistent. Always seemed to me that the overall issue was the fitment of the trunk sheetmetal in the body. Rarely could this mis-alignment be adjusted out.This was the state of quality control back in the day. However Chrysler could put together an "A" body better than a "C" body. Fitment issues are bigger the larger the car.
