My '62 Valiant push button mechanism works OK, but it's pretty squeaky and creaky, and I'd like to lube and inspect it and replace anything that is worn. Do you think this is something I can do myself, or is special knowledge, parts or tools necessary? Should I ask "Torqueflite Patty" Blais to fix it up for me, or should I do it myself? I'm an averagely-skilled mechanic.
I know how to remove/install the p.b. mechanism; have done it; and have the FSM.
Maybe a better plan would be to buy another p.b. mechanism and try to overhaul that one for the practice, and even if I screwed it up I'd still have the spare parts for the other one.
I'd appreciate knowing what you think. Thanks!
