please tell me where vin is on blck of 318 and how to figure out year

should be a machined pad on the oil pan rail with a partial vin, like 9b123456.
9 would be the model year, B would be the assembly plant(i think) and 123456 is the vehicle number. There will also be a date cast in the block 12*20*68 would be a correct for a 69 engine.
