I'm choking

Newbie here, I have A 225/6 with a 1920 carb. When I start the car cold , I cant get the idle down when I tap the gas. Do I have to wait 10-15 minutes at high idle for the manifold to heat up so the linkage rod will pull it off?

Sounds like your choke pull off diaphragm leaks or your vacuum hose is bad.
