got an original early '68 4 speed inland shifter w/reverse lockout T-handle- I want to take out the shift lever and replace the wire for lockout. Has anyone done this? Wondering how this comes out/if the bottom wire attachment removes with the lever when I unbolt and lift off. Any insight/tips on this appreciated. thnx

You have to unbolt the shift lever from the shifter box-3 nuts under the boot. Then with shifter lever in hand there is a small allen screw on the back side of the T, unscrew the allen screw and pull T off. Last I had heard that cable wasn't available in the Mopar form. Sometime back I saw that the early Mustang used the same cable, maybe different length. See what you can find, you know they make everything for Mustangs.

Put flat washers on top of those rubber bushings, It will make the shifter a lot tighter.

follow-up: that cable kit was perfect for re-furbing this shifter. good instructions included - simple once you eyeball how it operates.
