Installing a 3 speed floor shifter

Our 3 on the tree shift levers are worn, and not staying in place. Is it hard to convert it to a three speed floor shifter? I have been told this will remedy the problem since it would bypass the column linkage. We are trying to stay on a tight budget.

Yes a floor shifter is a pretty good fix mechanically. However the aftermarket kits out there don't finish out well on the interior. Usually a large square, rather ugly boot that fits poorly in our early cars, large hole in floor pan also. And at times interference with bench seat in forward positions. I might be able to help with a good column (3 spd. on tree) or parts. PM me if interested.
