so im about ready to put my dart back together after being painted. currently the car is stripped all the way down to the bare chassis. im running a 360/904 with tti headers.

im curious as to weather i can mount the k member to the engine with the lower control arms attached along with the headers trans and crossmember, then hold the chassis up by my hoist and lower the car down over the drivetrain. i know a lot of people have had a hellava time installing these headers from the top even with the engine out. i also plan to mount the steering box to the k. then after everything is bolted up slide the torsion bars through and mount the spindle to the upper control arm which will be bolted up already.

so am i crazy? or am i onto something here

You are not crazy, it's been done but not by me. Saw a build thread on here somewhere, where a guy installed a Gen II Hemi from below, just as you described. I believe he did it with the exhaust manifolds installed.

Keep in mind that installing the engine from the bottom was the way the factory did it, and still does it.

Unfortunately I don't have any first hand knowledge to walk you through, but at least you'll get a bump.

Regards,

Joe Dokes

what u describe is just how the factory put them together

I did everything you describe but put the fender well headers in first. Also, leaving the lower control arms and attached hardware off makes it easier to move the whole package into place.

im running the tti chassis headers

Does it look like this, put mine in by myself. Summit wheel dollies attached to a 1 1/8 plywood that kept motor low to the ground. Tapered the plywood to fit between the legs of the cherry picker and used a lifting strap wrapped around core support to lower the car over the k. Take your time and no problem. Nwdart

Look at the pics in my profile. I have a few of how I did the install from the bottom. I'll never do it any other way again. So easy. Handled it all solo.

I have done it every way there is. Piece of cake!!!!

Knowing your car is already that far apart it should be the only option you should consider.

Try it and I believe you will never want to do it any other way.

looks just like that but my headers are a little different

Yep,

I did mine that way.
