I've read about these in Mopar Action and Mr Ehrenberg says they are a worthwhile addition. You'll have to make up your own mind on that, but the idea is sound. Better living through modern technology.

The device is expensive but does work well and generated very little heat. They do buy old voltage limiters (for the metal containers) for $5.00 apiece. That can bring the price down if you have salvaged a few.

Or you could save even more money by building one yourself from a 7805 5V Regulator and a heat sink. Parts will cost you less than $5 at your local Radio Shack.
