Hey Guy's

I'm about to install my LD340 back on to my 340.

Read on different sites that some block the crossover at the head and some at the intake. I would say 50/50.

My thinking....even with gaskets with blocked crossovers, wouldn't it be better to block it at the head, which is the source of the heat.

I was going to use some 1/8" aluminum with some red RTV, then the gasket.

Also, the blue raised section on the gasket...does it go against the head or intake.

Thanks

Hummm, I think I would put the block off plate at the head side and the gasket on top of it. This way theres some, (Minor) heat blockage to help the gasket last. I don't know if this actually would hold any water, but that is the way I'd do it.

I normally put the blue facing up at the intake, but I don't think it'll matter.

Hi am i correct in assuming from those questions that block off gaskets alone aren,t reliable to block off the cross over ports in the intake manifold.

Iv'e read where guys will block the intake with foil wrap just crumpled and forced in????

I decided to block it as I saw in a M.A. article, where they cut some aluminun plate the shape of the slot in the head, and seal with red RTV. They say the gasket itself will eventually burn through. Can't say when. It saves doing it twice.

I also learnt that RTV is OK around the coolant ports but not the intake ports because RTV will desolve because it can't handle fuel. I used aviation sealer instead. It's sticky enough to hold the gaskets in place as well.

Rumble: I put the blue sides up, but like you say, it doesn't matter.

My thought. If you never start your car in cold weather block it off at the head. Now If you start your car up in the winter with it block off you will have a hard time keeping it running good untill it warms up.For me seeing I live in Canada were we all know its COLD,its an issue.I like geting out first of May and finish end of october were the cold does afect the warm up.Also i like to start my car up 4 or 5 times throught the winter as long it hits + 2 out.So I do knot block mine up.My 2 cents.

I hear ya Snake.

Like you, I like to start mine up maybe once a month to keep everything loose.

I originally bought the car with an old AFB that gave me lots of heat sink problems. Hard starting, flooding, etc. So I put a phenolic spacer under it. It help a bit, and I lost some low end torque because of it.

When I bought my Holley, I kept the spacer, but still no difference in torque.

I don't really care too much about 6000 rpm in my drop top.

The intake had to come off since I was loosing some coolant at the back on both sides.

I guess I just lumped my self with all the other folks running aftermarket heads and intakes with no crossovers.

I'll know better in a couple of days when I start it for the first time.

BTW...Nice Dart! Always like them.

Hey Jim good luck firering here up.This is the first year in over 10 that I have knot had a car to fire up in the winter, always look forward to it.Sounds like you already block it when i did that once to a 327 chevy dam it would foul all the plugs, and miss fire untill it warm up.Well hopfuly the mopars wont do that.let us know how she starts up.When you get it going have a look at your carb and see if it is frosting up.The first sign to a bad cold start up.Good luck Jim.

For a drop top that you will probably use as more of a cruiser then street racer I would leave the heat crossover unblocked.

But when I do block them I usually block them at the head with some sheet metal or aluminum and copper rtv.
