Is my clutch pedal not returning because it's a (new) diaphragm clutch?

-
well i did a duster with a diapharm type pressure plate and had to remove the peddle over camming spring . i just cut it with an abrasive blade in my cutoff saw .

Some great info on this thread ! Just to be clear I have a question , having the pedal spring with a diaphram will cause problems ? Or is it just not necessary ?

I’m a newbie when it comes to clutch’s so please understand.

Thanks

It may or may not. Most people don't seem to understand why the spring is used. My Dart was fine with it in with a diaphragm clutch, till I installed a scattershield, then my pedal just went to the floor. ????????

The diaphragm clutch doesn't need as much departure clearance as the B&B. Adjust the diaphragm setup so the pedal returns all the way, and you will over center the clutch. I have a diaphragm in my 65. The advantage is less pedal pressure. I put a block of wood under the carpet to reduce travel, and replaced the over center spring with a lighter one. Comes up all the way, and returns properly.

Only problem with my Centerforce Dual Friction clutch is that it bites so hard I'm afraid to speed shift it - pretty sure something will break. Not so good for drag racing. But just for regular driving in stop and go traffic, or cruising on country roads and running through the gears, it's a lot easier on my left knee than a heavy duty Borg and Beck.
I ran a Centerforce Dual Friction in my barracuda with a 383 and an 833 with a vertical gate. Had no problem speed shifting, I launched at 6000 and shifted at 6500

Do yourself a favor. Reach out to Janie Passion of Passion Performance. Jamie is extremely knowledgeable on MOPARS. Jamie is in Whitehead PA. I have done a lot of work with Jamie and he will help you understand the exact problem with your clutch. I worked on a 67 GTX he rebuilt the tranny and got me a McLoud Clutch. I had a problem and called Jamie. Took a photo of the throw out fork. The car had a 65 fork and all this done by photos. This was a Sunday and he helped me out on the phone. Awesome tranny guy. The best.

Oh, I can speed shift easily as ever. It just hits so hard that it feels like something in the drive train will break if I keep doing it.

Yes, don't bother posting anything on this forum because we don't know ****.

Sorry, but damn! This isn't that hard. Like diaphragm clutches or don't, but the stock borg and beck over-center spring is too strong for a diaphragm clutch. Remove it or replace it with something lighter. Duh. . . .

Besides all that, I wouldn't trust Passon any farther than I could throw 100 of him.
