hey everybody . i have a 68 cuda wit a 440 and it stops pulling after about 3600 it just makes alot of noise but it not going any were i have changed everything you name it from converters to trans to intakes to fuel to carb to heads and springs i even changed eng,s and gears my bubby is telling me that it,s the msd 6al,the coil or the stock dsit i don,t want to keep changing parts just becuse like i have been i know this car should run at lest 11.40 et PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME !!!:angry7:

Really if it's a race car having the timing locked to the total timing the combo likes [after starting it first] should not make it fall on it's face in the upper rpm.
Too little valve spring pressure, bad coil, major leak down etc can though.

Welcome to FABO! Sounds like the ignition is the only thing that you have not changed. What else could it be? Right. The only other thing I can think of that is making it fall down on the top end would be you are not getting full throttle. Check your throttle cabble to make shure. Ask me how I know. LOL

Good luck.

How does it rev in the water box or spinning the tires on dirt??................

My late friend with the 440 Long Ram Dart had similar issues. 6ooo rpm while spinning the tires on dirt or just revving it in neutral but put a load on it and it just petered out about 4ooo.

Turned out that the /6 throttle cable is too short. The primaries would open abour 1/2 way. Still ran 98 mph in the 1/4.
Have somebody floor the gas pedal while you check the throttle plates for full opening.

The proper cable made it a traction challenged monster.

If you're running headers break the flange on each side at the collector and wire up the exhaust pipes, could be collapsed mufflers if you're running them.
Also you never mentioned what your timing actually is set at and make sure that the TDC mark on the dampener corresponds to TDC no.1 and that the outer ring hasn't spun.

Was your cam degreed when it was installed?
I had a 340 once that wouldn't pull past 4,000.
The previous owner had just lined up the dots instead of degreeing the cam correctly. It made a world of difference.
