Hi everyone. I have not posted in a long time and am just starting to get back into working on my mopars. I have a 85 W100 with a 318 auto trans that I am fixing up. While going over some things I spotted this connector is in bad shape. The big end goes to the battery lug positive. The other end goes to a welded splice with 3 wires, one goes to the amp meter, don`t know were exactly the other 2 go as they are not on any wiring diagrams I can find. Is this a fusable link and can I replace it with something better? The wire is all cracked and frayed going into the splice. I would like to replace wire splice forward but do not know if there should be a fuse in between them. What would be a good fix for this? Thanks Mike

The pictured wiring segment is not a fusible link. The larger wire feed from the positive battery terminal is to the white disconnect to the charging circuit. The smaller red wire continues from the disconnect to a junction of the shunt for the ammeter (black, 6 gauge), the lead to the ammeter (red, 20 gauge),and to the starter relay (red, 12 gauge). On the other side of the shunt/ammeter tap are the multiple fusible links.

Also tapped from the positive battery terminal is a heavy lead to the starter and a small violet lead to a connector for another fusible link to the hazard flasher.

The wiring diagram for this can be found in the factory service manual for the 1985 D/W 100-350 and Ramcharger trucks on pp. 8-182 and 8-183 of the Electrical section (publication 81-370-5008).

Ok so in order to repair this I should be able to cut the wires behind the splice and make a new splice with a #4 wire and run the #4 to my battery lug? Would that be correct.

The disconnect and damaged wires can be replaced with a single wire between the slice and battery terminal as you describe, similar to the following drawing:
