Isuzu Trooper?

The wife and I are thinking about picking up one of these for a fresh out of the lake wet dog hauler, and backwoods camping adventure vehicle.

We are liking the 1986-1991 design (prefer 1986 with round headlights). Prefer the 4 cylinder and it must be a 5 speed.

Anyone here have one or have first hand experience with these?

I have also been doing web searches, looks like the early 2.3, 4 banger had a head problem.

Looks like nice ones are going for well under $3,000 here in Oregon.

Don't know much about the isuzu and it's not what you asked about but do you like the Cherokees? If you pick up one with the 4.0 they are virtually bullet proof. Not uncommon for 2-300k on them. I have had a few and if you don't mind 10-14 mpg you really can't beat them.

The last one I had I hydro locked the motor in waist high water, picked up a used motor of Craigslist for 300, dropped it in over the weekend and right back to it.

I've personally never seen one around here run long enough for anyone to wear it out.
