I realize this is no big deal to some but it’s progress on my van project. I had this stock 318 kicking around the shop and decided it was best to replace the van’s 318 with a fresh engine would also be a plus.
KB 167-030 pistons. Some sort of RV cam and .030” over fresh bore and all new bearings and seals. Factory heads (3769973) and hv oil pump and a cast iron 4bbl intake with dual exhaust on the van should be a tad better than what she has now.
Machine shop did the calculation on the short block and then the heads and said it should be 9.238 to one compression with the felpro .040” perma torque gaskets in the kit. Stock 318 heads were cut .020” to make up for the thicker gasket along with a 3way valve job and matching springs for the cam.

My wife said, “You can ever leave anything alone, can you?”
That made me laugh.

Have fun with the engine removal and installation.

I’ve been dreading it. The van is gutted right now so thru the passenger door is an option. I’m adding a 46rh overdrive when the old 318 and 904 come out.
So because I have access to a lift I’m thinking about going in from below like the factory did. A few months away but progress.

My '78 came out the front, removable radiator header. It was tight with the intake off.
