I'm working on getting my Kevko pan installed on my 408. I’m concerned with the height on the pickup off the pan. Besides that I have had to drill a few holes in the front sump to let it fit over my main studs for a windage tray that I not going to use, and had to beat on the side of the pan to push it out some. It was contacting my pickup tube, looked like it was warped in slightly from all the welding they did on the pan. I also had to cut off the mounting tab for the pickup because it was nowhere near where it needed to be to use it on the main stud.
Below are some pictures I’m a good 1/2" off the bottom of the pan. Should I not be concerned since it is a higher capacity oil pan or should it still be 1/8" off the pan? Comparing my old pickup to the new one, the new one is about 3" deeper than the old one for the factory style pan. Im stressing it because I had to build this 408 because the original 340 spun a bearing and I believe it was from running the factory style pan and hard acceleration and for a moment starving the pickup of oil. I to dont want to do this to the new motor.
In the first picture you can see the 2 holes I had to drill to clear the 2 front main studs. and that the pan is 8" deep.
here you can see the pickup is 7-1/2" high.
