I have a 73 Valiant with a slant 6 automatic that I picked up not long ago and got it running but am afraid to drive it out of the yard because the kick down linkage seems to be missing parts. Any one have a picture to complete what I'm missing would be great. Here's what I have and it is connected to the tranny. Thanks in advance.

Somebody swapped most of a '77-'83 "Super Six" 2-barrel setup onto your car, and didn't put in the complete kickdown linkage.

Super Six kickdown assemblies have grown rare and costly. See this thread for kickdown options.

In the meantime, no need to be afraid of driving it even at normal road speeds; just shift manually up through the gears—don't put it in Drive until you've accelerated through 1 and 2; you'll put unnecessary wear and tear on the transmission. You don't have to downshift through 2 and 1 as you slow down; you can come to a complete stop and then shift to 1 to start out again.

Good to know I really appreciate your help.

I wouldn’t drive it at all without Kickdown. “Throttle pressure linkage” The service manual calls it. Needs to be there.

Now if you want to drive it take a wire and pull the linkage all the way back and secure it. Then drive. You will burn up the trans in a few hundred miles without doing this.

Burned up my last 904 by not having it adjusted properly and hate to do it again.

You could always purchase the aftermarket kickdown cable setup (i.e. Lokar) to get you going instead of looking for original style pieces. That issue is common when going from a 2 barrel to 4 on V8 cars or even when changing intake manifolds because the original brackets won't fit like they used to. Welcome to working on our vintage cars!

You can do it manually, but you just have to let off the gas before every shift.

Did that on my Scamp and yea I kinda wanted to keep it stock but looks like I will go with the aftermarket cable instead.
At this point I think I might just go with a header and 4 barrel carb and manifold.
