Last titled and registered in 1977 Ca.

Trying to track down a car last titled and registered in California
in 1977. Would the state have any records on this? I understand
once something has gone unregistered for 5 years it is purged
from the system, but I would think there should be a record
somewhere. Can anyone help with this?

If you know someone in the insurance industry that can access that database, you might find something. Don't count on anything through the state. Info is long gone.

so a person could do an application for a lost title on a car like that
then perhaps?

Nope, you'd get a new title if you are in CA.

Need a bill of sale and vin verification. That's it. Since the car is out of the system a VIN verification would be required, no way around it in my experience.

What if it is in nevada currently. Possession being 9/10ths of
ownership and all.
