Iv'e got my 340 in pieces, all bearings failed and crank in poor shape.
Cam is o.k. but I'm concerned that there may may be metal particles in the lifters from the bearings break up, there was debris in the oil pan.
Can the lifters be cleaned enough to remove any debris?
If I decide to go with new lifters how about the cam?
I know when you replace a cam you need to put in new lifters so they harden togther, how about the other way around, can I just install new lifters and go with the original cam?

Yes,you can use your old cam with new lifters ,you have to go through the break-in period again just as if it were a new cam.

You can take apart your lifters and clean them out but it's kinda tedious work. I did it once and my hands are a little shaky and I had a heck of a time getting them back together.

Thanks Monte,
Just read my shop manual and took 2 lifters apart, cleaned and reassembled, piece of cake.
I did get some debris when I washed the parts in varsol.
Looks like Iv'e just saved a few $$$$, manual has paid for itself again.
