Lights On

My back up lights are on while in (n r d 2 1) but when I put the car in part the go off. Whats with this.
A body of mine call me last night when I went by him and advised me of this.

I think your contact pin or cam in the trans is shot.

unless he has an external back up light switch.

what year is your car? is it column or floor shift?

I have a 67 270 DART and its a column shift automatic.

i have a 68 270 column shift auto, might or might not be the same but my reverse light switch was on top of the sterring column right by the firewall, two wires go to it, purple and white, has a plug. try un plugging it (if it is there)

was held on with 3 or 4 nuts. do not know if you can get a replacement. but if it is located there, you should be able to put a modern switch in the tranny and make the lights work off it.

DragginMaster, Thanks for the info. That was the problem, I had another reverse switch on a spare steering column I had. All fixed.
