Guys,

My neighbor showed me today an 8 & 3/4 rear end with a 741 housing that he has. He "says" it has the Mopar "limited slip" unit. I noticed that both axles must turn at the same time.

It looks like it may be a '71-74 B-body rear as the perches measure 47" center perch to perch. I don't know if the 741 housing is original to the rear end or not.

I have run Pontiac 10 bolt rears with the GM "limited slip" in several cars with Pontiac big blocks and had good traction and no breakage problems (even with 500-600 lbs torque).

QUESTIONS:
(1) Does anyone have any experience running one of the Mopar "limited
slip" units on the street ?? (small block motor - cruising mostly - NO
dragstrip racing)
(2) What about gear availability for the limited slip unit?? (same as the
sure-grip unit gears ???)

As always, any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
GLJPLC

Sure grip is the term Chrysler used for limited slip so what you were looking at was a sure-grip. The 8-3/4 is a very tough rearend although the 741 is the least desireable. It's quite possible the 741 case is original in it. The 3 different case (741, 742, and 489) styles all take different gear sets. Gears are readily available from several sources.
