Hello friends, newbie here...
Just wondering if a locking gas cap is available for a 1971 Dart? I've tried Auto Zone, Napa, Carquest etc, to no avail. Gas is gettin' way too expensive to be left unlocked... ;o)
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Paul

Ugh. The '71 caps are a one year only deal. Not easy to find in locking or non-locking. And typically VERY expensive. You're almost better off finding a later filler neck so you can use a later cap.

If you do buy one for a '71, here's a reference of what it should look like. A lot of places will list later ones as fitting a '71, they will not.

None of these are what you call "vented" in the traditional sense. No 69 or earlier uses a vented cap. Some 70's used what amounts to 69 / earlier (no carbon can evap system) CA cars did

These later caps sometimes INcorrectly called "vented" have what amounts to pressure and vacuum relief valves. In "normal operation" the tank is vented through the 1/4" line going to the front, and through the carbon can system. If you are going to remove all that, it's important to provide a vent

I'm with above..........might consider going to an earlier filler neck.

Yes stant makes one for a 71. Seen them at classic industries. The local parts houses such as autozone or Oreileys can order if you have a part number.

Stant Fuel Tank locking Cap
Part Number: 14641-05066192

This part fits:
Vehicle Engine
• 1970 Dodge Dart 3.2L 6 Cyl GAS
• 1970 Dodge Dart 3.2L 6 Cyl GAS
• 1970 Dodge Dart 3.7L 6 Cyl GAS
• 1970 Dodge Dart 3.7L 6 Cyl GAS
• 1970 Dodge Dart 5.2L V8 GAS
• 1970 Dodge Dart 5.2L V8 GAS
• 1970 Dodge Dart 5.6L V8 GAS

Try Part Number: BK 7031168 at NAPA.

Also try Stant # 10580 and 10582. Not sure which will work in your fuel filler neck. Stant is a brand that is carried in a lot of different places.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the responses and good info! Seeing how limited my options are, I now see why I couldn't find anything... If I can't source a '71 locking gas cap and go the filler tube route, which would be the easiest to find and the best one to go with?
