how much power can LY rods handle? what should i do to them to make them as tough as possible. please dont tell me to buy aftermarket rods. thanks

polish the beams, heavy duty rod bolts and balance. then you'll have no problems.
X2! I twisted mine to 8500 many times with trw pistons on top of them. I ran 3thos.clearance on rods and mains with 40wt.oil restricted oil to the heads.did that for 5yr.everyone thut it was a high dollar motor....

Mine hit 8500 on two occasions and no damage. 6500 rpm regularly for 100 passes and are still good. I only changed them because I am stepping way up.

run a custom lightwieght piston, check the small end that the pin hole is centered, have them bushed for a smaller lighter pin, plus whats already posted.

I will be using ly rods with kb280 pistons and pins. Plus a forged 440 crank and I expect it will live with 600 h.p and 6500 rpm no sweat. I always thought it was rpm that killed rods, especially with a press pin.

Thats why Im bushing for a floating piston pin

Some guys also use a grooved hemi rod bearing for extra insurance hi rpm oiling.

What would be the best rod bolt money can buy for an LY rod?

ARP Bolts are readily available and cost effective.

If you polish the Beams on the stock LY's, it is nice to put at least some kind of initial surface hardening back on ?
Given,
that the polishing will cut through any Thermal cycling hardening present from past useage ?

If you can't get an Almen Method Shot Peening done,
even,
a High Pressure Glass Beading will help.

No matter, they will build up some surface hardening over time anyways in service from the Thermal Cycles.

Good luck with it.
