Made a little more progress today.

Engine moved from engine stand to 30 year old "Home-Brewed" start up stand.

Still have to put radiator back on to the start up stand.

Now on to final assembly and startup.

That towel setting in the lifter valley reminds me of a Member Tom Bachman came back here with an engine I sold him with low oil pressure. First thing we did was pulled the filter, After seeing the strings we pulled the pan.

He installed an Aluminum intake and laid a T-shirt in there when he scraped the gasket off the heads. He forgot the T-shirt when he bolted the intake on. It was wrapped around the cam and the crank. What a mess that was. Make sure you don't forget the towel. LOL

The Red that you see in this photo is actually the new wiring harness for the coolant and cam position sensors that will run through the firewall at the top center rear of the engine when it goes back in the car.

BUT, there is a towel covering the lifter valley also. Be Assured. It Will Be Removed Before final assembly....

My "Towel Story"

A few years ago I was working on my 273/292 engine.

I had my Stock Charger 273 intake manifold on it. I wanted to install a larger carb. Would not work. Throttle bores in intake too small. Packed the intake runners tight full of those blue composite paper towel. Proceeded to enlarge throttle bores with carbide die grinder. Removed just enough towels to check fit. Set carb on intake.

Just as I finished, I was interrupted by an employee of a contractor that arrived to fix a job that he did not "complete" correctly.

We got into a very heat discussion about the problem. His Boss told him to fix it. He did not want to. But in the end he did. That is a whole nother story.

Needless to Say, I was Not in a good mood .

Went back to my project. Bolted carb down. Jumped in to start car. Hard to start. Finally fired up popping and back firing.

Got out to see what the problem was... Looked behind car... Long stream of shredded blue shop towels across the driveway.

Sucked every towel through the engine.

Ended up knocking out every rod bearing....

That engine is still apart. It is my next project.... It was originally in the 2010 MOPAR Muscle Engine Challenge. It was built by Chenowith Speed and Machine in Morton Illinois. I believe if I remember correctly @IQ52 did the head work on the engine.

I suppose it’s one way to deal with piston slap or rod knock.

**** happens I also did some pretty stupid things in my past. The worst was putting a 340 in a 72 charger

Set the engine in with the manifolds on it. The car was on the ground. slipped the bolts through the engine mounts and put the top bell bolts in. Todd and I proceeded to hook everything up on top Carb & linkage, radiator and all the hoses. filled the coolant up and put the hood on. We were done under the hood .

We put it on the lift and I told todd to put the torque converter bolts in. He said who was suppose to put the converter in the trans. I turned around and it was setting on the bench. We called it quits for the night.
