Can yu gents tell me if the mail seal on a 1971 318 is a one piece or two piece. Also. how hard is the install.

Can you guys also give me points on sealing the area up with I think you call RTV? Some sort of sealant.

I will be having this done by a guy but you guys have really good tips and ideas.

Two piece.
I would only use some RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) at the mating joints of the two halfs, just a small dab.

Like the others have said its a two piece. The lip faces the front of the engine, offset the seal slightly from the parting line like a 1/4 inch and use a very small amount of sealer at the ends. Last make sure you put a little lube on it against the crank so it doesn't dry spin and ruin the new seal.
