Is there a trick to seperating the steering box from the column? I have all my steering and suspension getting powder coated and I'd like to take this in as well but cant get it seperated. I removed the roll pin out of the column but couldn't get it to seperate. Is there something I'm missing or do I just need some wd-40?

its a pain to remove coupling and when you do make sure it is marked so you wont screw your alignment up i got mine off but in process i ruined the seal on box but if its like my 68 dart the column slides into the coupler and there was a metal cap to pry off and the column slid out hope this helps and good luck

Use a proper sized punch to knock the roll pin out from the front of the coupler, GENTLY pry the coupler rearward until it clears the spline. usually a prybar and chunk of wood will persuade it to move, but be careful not to damage the box or splines. the column is sleeved so the coupler can be pushed towards back of car without removing the column. good luck

I always use my pickle fork and just tap it between the steering box and the slop collar. It will seperate easily enough, unless it is so rusty and corroded it is seized. Most of the ones I've removed are greased. Geof

Me too, in a pinch the prybar/ wood block will do.

pry bar and penatrating oil did the trick. But not before I had removed it from the car with the steering shaft still in place.
