Are they the same? I know the accessories intake and heads are different but what about stuff like the block and rotating assembly?

Not all but some marine engines rotate backwards so you can't use the crank unless the rear main seal grooves can be modified. I think the block is the same. Maybe even heavier duty.

The block will be the same as a car/truck, nothing special about the heads other than having rotators on the exhaust valves. The intake will be a cast iron 4 bbl type with an angled carb pad. The timing chain cover, water distribution housing, thermostat housing and exhaust manifolds will obviously be marine specific. The crank will just be a heavy duty piece with CFD cast into it but if it was a reverse rotation engine the serrations for the oil seal will be cut the wrong way for automotive use. The rods and pistons were nothing special except for reverse rotation engines which just had the pistons mounted backwards.

It depends on the engine. Dual 318's- one ran backwards. 440, about a car engine. Marine specific is basically= explosion proof starter, alt, dist. carb different. Cam like a 1/8 mile roundy rounder.

Parts the same, except for cam, and electrical stuff, the elect will work on a car, they just have mesh screens over the openings.
