So I was hoping for some advice. I purchased a pile of parts from a guy and included were a set of iron big block heads. I got them home and started checking them out. They have adjustable steel crane rockers and after checking casting numbers they turned out to be #2406518 64 Max Wedge heads. They are original and not the re-pops and from what I am finding they seem to be very desirable and very hard to find. So my question is should I have them gone threw and run them on my 440 for my Duster or are they valuable enough to sell and buy some trick flows? I like the idea of running them but if they are really that rare I am not sure. Thanks in advance.

The trick is finding an intake that will seal to the iron max heads.
The aftermarket max wedge port heads have a full panel between the ports for an aftermarket valley pan to seal against. The iron maxes are open in that area. Valley seal becomes a problem.

Just to make sure you have maxes (516s have been misread as 518s before) do these heads have a heat crossover in the middle? And 1.88 exhausts?

If they are stock/unported and the Valve seats
are not super sunk and shot, should be worth
an easy $2,500. Given they are original and not
the repop MP heads.

Sell them and buy aluminum heads unless you are
restoring a 64 Max Wedge car.

Also, in the old days, an untouched, UNPORTED max head was worth more than a ported set. Stock and super stock racers needed virgins. I don't know if that is still true.

GTX John covered this, while i was typing, slowly, lol

There are only a very few guys that can use them, but there will be a few that can.

New Trick Flows would be a much better option in my opinion over these for the average guy.

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna probably shelve them and order the trick flows.

The best of the best ( in vintage gear ) before the gen 2 hemi hit the tracks (and streets). I would not run them unless you have a very special project for them. If you do tho, an Indy intake for the 440-1s should work great for the strip. Vintage nascar single 4's can also be found $$$ to fit under the hood, or a crossram of course.
If they are repops, there will be a pentastar and an "M" in the casting.
Contradicting Tom, but i THOUGHT those are the first and only maxie heads for 6 bolt valve covers.

There are only a very few guys that can use them and you are limited to only 4-bolt valve cover if you plan to use them.

New Trick Flows would be a much better option in my opinion over these for the average guy.

518 are 1964 Heads and all have 6 bolt.

286 are 1963/1962 heads and all have 4 bolt.

That is how my elder mind recall them.

518s are 6 bolt, you're thinking of the 286 heads.
