Stainless renforced Teflon supply line failure.

Shitty! Supply line to hot water tank?
Damn that sucks...of all days, but no day is good for water leaks
Yep. I think the flex line was getting hot from the flue so I'm going to install a heat shield around it. Once I get everything up and running I'll disect the flex line and see what the failure was.

And yes today of all days!

I gotta ask, why are you using a rubber stainless steel braided line where copper tubing would be used?

Teflon stainless.

Here in Northern Colorado we have expansive clay soil. The floor of the basement can move inches up or down.

Infact our basement walles are directly attached to the ceiling but are floating on pins in the floor. There is about a 4 inch gap. And the base molding it attached to the bottom are but not the wall so when things move the molding doesn't rip nails out. Framing Basement Walls - How To Build Floating Walls

Without the flex line the water heater could rip the copper out of the ceiling

Wow, never heard of soil like that! Learn something here every day.
Good luck.

I never had a basement till 15 years ago, or lived where it freezes.

A LOT of learning.
