how much HP can a factory k member take? when do you up grade to a motor plate? 500,600 HP? i have a big block 400 in a 73 duster and am rebuilding the motor and was wondering how far i can push the motor mounts till i need a motor plate.

One of the main concerns with a BB and torque is that you can actually pull the side out of the block or at least produce cracks around the motor mount area and start leaking water. The motor plate prevents this from occurring. I would at least use a torque limiter strap on the drivers side.

A well-made strap will work well and still allow the use of mounts.

the guy who is building the motor said it should produce about 550 HP and about 575 LBS TQ. this car will see both street and track duty. the stall speed is 3000 RPM, with a 4:10 gear and a 29 in tire.
