Here is a little 383 I put together. I just ran the snot out of it today. Its just a little stockish 383, nothing to out there. Build is as follows

    383 block 30 over
    383 crank
    383 rods w/ARP bolts
    383 oil pan
Summit racing oil pan gasket/windage tray
    KB flat tops
Procomp straight plug heads, mild clean up
    Aluminum roller rockers
MRL custom hydraulic roller 227/231 .550"
    RPM intake
    Proform carb 750 mech
    FBO Ignition(Out-performed the MSD 7!)

It ran well, made good power and was all in by 5200rpm.

    436HP at 5200
    460+TQ from 3750-4800rpm peaked at 467tq

"Stockish" with aluminum heads and roller cam. Yeah ok. Whatever. LOL

Still a nice build though, for sure.

A 383 build. Aw right! Did you use a stock oil pump?

Stockish, yay know. LOL Its like a stock 383 with some upgrades. If you had a stock 383 and wanted more these are the things you would do. Heads, cam, rockers and intake. Pretty simple yet good power. The torque is really what will make this a blast on the street.
      Stock melling pump M63.

Awesome! I really appreciate you posting these builds Mike. There are so many guys that like to see what approximate achievable power can be made with various mods to various motors.

Awesome torque curve for 383 cid. A lot of that must be in the cam, gotta love those hydraulic rollers.
          Thanks Mike.

I love it. The 383 is so often skipped over. That engine should last a good long time.

The FBO box, it's just awesome. it has always made more power than the msd 6&7, every time I have run one. Why, msd sucks? IDK LOL http://www.4secondsflat.com/Ignition.html we are a dealer.
it was decked to get it perfect and give it a zero deck.

Not to discredit you man, but I was expecting a little more power than that with those heads, cam, and flat-tops. Got to be more in the set up the way the torque curve is with that high revving small bb, big heads, and a big cam in a smallish engine. I was expecting the torque and hp to more close, given that is a more radical set up than most street 383s and given its displacement. I am by no means an expert, I just figured with that set up it would be north of 450hp.

I see now the compression, I was figuring you at 10.5.

That site is hard to look at, I'd possibly be interested in there stuff if i could figure out where to look? Are their boxes programmable? Prices comparable to msd?

This is not an all out how much power can I squeeze out of an engine type build. I did not do a lot of work on the heads, just a good valve job and a mild port clean up. The cam is pretty small and the drivability will be very nice. I think it has great torque down low considering that the 383 has no stroke, 3.38". Yes there is a lot left in this combo. Spend about 40hrs on the heads and it will go over 500HP, but that wasn't the point here. I wanted a mild 383 that you can drive anywhere, anytime.

BTW a stock HP 383 was rated at 335HP GROSS with 10 to 1 compression. This one is making 100HP more than that with less compression and the same drivability.

So true. Not every engine has to be an all out race motor. Just how much HP is needed to drive on the street?

Mike, nice simple combination. For what, it costs a shop owner to port OEM iron head castings, the aluminum just makes more sense, in general. Nice ,torque curve...
