MSD starter saver

Has anyone used MSD 8984 starter saver with a locked mopar electronic distributor and 6al box? The instructions states must be used with MSD distributor or crank trigger or magnetic trigger dist.

No biggie. Before I spent all that chunk, I'd wire in a relay and toggle switch to kill the ignition when the engine is hot, get it spinning and flip the switch. I mean, if you just like spending money, send some to me.

A magnetic pickup is a magnetic pickup, for the most part. They don't all have the same signal strength, but unless MSD went out of their way to design a new magnetic pickup input circuit for the starter saver instead of copying what they did in their ignition boxes, it should probably work fine. It definitely won't hurt anything to try it. Worst case is you won't get a spark

It hasn’t been an issue in the past but I just did a refresh and with a slight increase in compression it might become one.

I do have an ignition kill switch so I guess if cranking becomes an issue I’ll try using that.

If you’re running an external oil pump you can get away with cranking and then firing. If running a stock oil pump, should use the retard and not overly crank.
