I build model cars in my spare time. They're easy to store, easy to build, and I've never had to worry about getting the wires right on the distributor. :p I'm probably going to spend much less time on them now that I have a real car to pour money and time and more money into, but I thought I'd share something I built a while back for fun.

Every once in a great while I see a Dart Sport show up on eBay, but they're dealer promo models and usually very expensive. The closest I've come is a 1977 Volare.

Also, it might be a teensy bit easier to make the Duster model look like a real Dart Sport than the other way around, but I get the idea. :p

I have been building since I was about 7 years old.I dont have a big enough garage to work in during the winter so that is my main pass time during the cold months. If there is enough people doing kits here, and enough intrest , we might get our own catagory here.I know that old cars and building go hand and hand.

I could definitely see that being a fun subcategory. There are plenty of Duster, Dart and even Valiant kits floating around out there. I have a custom 64 Valiant wagon kit someone cast out of resin that I'm itching to build. Sadly, no one has made a V-100 yet.

Heres a model story for you. When I bought my Barracuda my 13 yr old son just HAD TO find a 66 Cuda model to build. Right after he finished it my 3 yr old son ended up tossing it down the steps breaking it beyond repair. As upset as my 13 yr old was it ended up working out for me. I bought him a new 1 and then ended up painting the old one atleast 20 times to get the paint color combinations and size of the charcoal striping Im doing on it all finalized. Seeing as I plan on keeping the car and never selling it, it turned out to be a story that will probably be told for the next 20+ years as the boys get older and SLOWLY earn some priviledges to drive it. Sorry if its a little off base with the thread, but when I saw a model car post I just had to share the story.

That's a great story, Ron. I think it's right on topic. Very cool.

As for you, Brian. What a fantastic collection of A bodies! Way to steal my thunder.

Here's a few more of mine. Not A bodies, but hopefully you won't mind. This is the off-topic area, after all.

Chuck, when I saw the first model you posted I didnt realise that you build them to "beaters" or at the very least as "aged". VERY COOL. Neat twist on model building thats for sure. Are you going to go with the same motife for the Valiant? lol Just kidding

Heh. Yeah, beaters are my specialty. I don't have to do much on the Valiant to accomplish that look. It's my rare exception where I'm actually trying to make something look less crusty and rusty.

I agree - this should be a new forum. Chuckness, those are sweet, I really want to learn how to do the "barn find" look with rust holes and all. I've got a few in boxes waiting on me - but for the last few years it's been all about 1:1 scale A bodies for me !

Great detail work on the Willies, Mike! Looks great. I'm hoping we actually do get a model section going here. It would just help build the excitement.

Mr. Rebel, if you want to do a barn find build, there's absolutely no better forum for tips than The Model Builders. There are builders there that will blow your mind with their realism and they're more than happy to share their secrets.

If you need a Dart Sport model, find one of these, they aren't really Dusters. Notice the header panel on the front is the Dart Sport "beak". They also have Dart twin tail light lenses on each side. My son built one of these to match his '74 Dart Sport. The only thing not right for his '74 is the grill, but it's the closest we could come.

    Dart Sport scale model

There's plenty of them on ebay.

I'd forgotten about that kit! I'm sure you could use AMT's 71 duster kit along with it to make up all stock components. Lindberg has a '64 Dodge 300 model that has a Slant 6 in it too.
